Inspection across production sites
On September 16, 2026, Siemens announced an expansion of the quality inspection system it developed with Procter & Gamble across P&G manufacturing operations worldwide. The Visual Inspection Cockpit addresses consumer goods production involving materials that can change shape or appearance as they move through a line.

Edge computing linked to production
The system combines P&G’s deep learning models with Siemens Industrial Edge and industrial PCs using Nvidia GPUs. Siemens provides the computing infrastructure and software scaling capabilities, as well as support for operation across production sites.
According to Siemens, inspection decisions are processed near production equipment and can trigger alerts or rejection of defective products. The system also collects quality data for analysis over time. These are capabilities described by the manufacturer; they do not establish performance for a different factory or product.

LANGOM perspective
For a project team evaluating automated inspection, the announcement highlights the need to specify more than an industrial PC. Ask the supplier to define the camera and lighting arrangement, expected defect types, model responsibilities and the connection between an inspection decision and the line’s reject mechanism.
Define acceptance trials around representative production samples, including acceptable variation and difficult defects. Agree how false rejects and missed defects will be measured at the intended line speed. Ask how model changes will be approved and how an earlier configuration can be restored.
Procurement should also clarify the support boundary between computing hardware, edge software, inspection models and machine controls. Include access permissions, update procedures and retention of inspection records in the project scope. A rollout plan should identify what can be reused between sites and what must be validated locally. These are LANGOM’s evaluation considerations, not a claim that this particular solution is available through LANGOM.
