A wider test envelope

Tektronix introduced the dual-channel MSMU200-2 source measure unit on September 8, extending its MP5000 platform into higher-voltage semiconductor and optoelectronic testing. The company specifies a 30 W operating envelope, with limits reaching 200 V or 1.5 A DC according to the operating point. Pulsed current can reach 7 A under specified conditions.

The announcement also introduces TriggerFlow, a graphical interface in TSP Toolkit for arranging and debugging parallel test sequences. It lets engineers coordinate source changes, measurements and events across channels, including interactions with external equipment such as probers and handlers.

Integration details that matter

The platform documentation identifies the MP5103 as a three-slot mainframe occupying 1U of rack space. It accommodates up to six channels and allows source measure and power supply modules to share the same chassis. This gives a test-system designer several ways to allocate measurement and power functions within one rack position.

Automation compatibility deserves attention during specification. Tektronix states that the MP5000 uses Test Script Processor commands and does not support SCPI. Its documentation describes instrument-resident scripts, a Python driver and a web interface. Existing test software therefore needs a deliberate integration review rather than an assumption that familiar SCPI commands will transfer unchanged.

LANGOM perspective

For project planning, this combination suggests evaluating the complete measurement sequence before selecting modules. Start with the voltage and current required at each device terminal, distinguish continuous operation from pulses, and document which actions must occur together. Then review the control software and channel allocation against those requirements.

A useful equipment enquiry should include the device under test, operating points, pulse conditions, channel count and existing automation environment. That makes the technical discussion more precise and helps separate a suitable configuration from an attractive headline specification.
